The Karate Summer School
Monday 5th to Friday 9th August 2024

The Summer Karate Course takes place at Lancaster University in Lancaster, Lancashire. With so many historical sights to see, and just a 40 minute drive from Blackpool, this course not only offers excellent training but an array of activities once you are finished with your classes for the day.

This course has much to offer, from the opportunity to take your Instructors qualification and a first aid lecture, to the Superstar's sports competition.  It is a flexible course, which means you have complete control over how much your train, socialise, and sight-see!

Lancaster University Sports Centre

Lancaster University is situated at the foot of one of the most beautiful national parks in England, the Lake District. 

The University is a 10 minute bus ride from the centre of Lancaster allowing easy access to many shops, restaurants and bus and rail stations, meaning the venue provides an ideal base for sightseeing. 

 

The Sports Centre is modern with all key facilities, such as a gym and a swimming pool, as well a rock-climbing wall!

The Sports Hall that the Train With The Champions Course is held in was opened in 2022 and has eight courts, providing room for all classes to spread out.

Our Karate Summer School offers a wide variety of activities, from our standard Training classes to special Dan Grading Classes for those grading to 1st Dan or above in the next year, as well as our annual Superstar's Competition for all kids on the course.

Classes can either be paid for in advance for the whole week which includes all of the special Dan Grading classes

The cost for the week's training is £150 however, there is an early bird discount available until Sunday 10th March.

For those Karateka who can only come for the occasional session or day, the following cost applies.

Single session a day £20 per person 
Double session a day £35 per person
Triple session in day £45 per person

Accommodation

For this course you can book to stay on-site in Student Accommodation. Just a 10 minute walk to the Sports Centre, this includes a room with an ensuite, free Wifi, in a hall with a communal kitchen shared with other karateka on the course. If you are booking as a group we can put you in the same hall.  Please book your accommodation as soon as possible as rooms are in short supply due to a backlog of events caused by the pandemic.  Book on the button below and use code KSS24.

For University accommodation, please note that check in is 15:00pm daily, check out is 10:00am daily.

Please note : the University charges for car parking.  You MUST purchase a ticket if you arrive by car from any of the pay and display machines. It is £5.00 per day but free after 6pm and at weekends.

Course Activities

On this course you'll find several different activities included for different ages and grades:

Superstars Competition

On Thursday at 3-5pm we'll be holding our Kid's Superstars competition, a Dan vs Kyu Grade competition involving a variety of activities such as basketball, tug of war, sumo wrestling, and a penalty shootout. 

Social Evening

 

 

The Social Evening is on Monday and will be held at the Boot and Shoe which is just a mile from Campus towards Lancaster.

 

Sensei Higgins will be holding one of his infamous "quiz nights" and we are also excited to add a book reading for our younger members.  Join author and illustrator, Holly Sterling, for a reading of her book Karate Kids, which was shortlisted for The Telegraph Sports Book of the Year 2021.   

 

The social evening is a great opportunity to meet up with KUGB friends, both old and new, and is open to everyone of all ages who are on the course, plus their families.  Entrance is free, food and drink available for purchase.

First Aid Course

Dr. Tim Baker, FRCGP BMBS Member of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK, will be holding an interactive session on Wednesday morning from 10:45-11:45am that gives first-hand experience of important First Aid measures.  This is fantastic and a lot of fun - don't miss it!

Kid's Activity Pack

Pick up a free Kid's Activity Pack with colouring pages, word searches, mazes, and more specially designed for the Karate Summer School and surrounding area. These are available to pick up at the Social Evening and before/after classes from Tuesday onwards.

Lancaster University is surrounded by restaurants, experiences, and more for when you've finished training.

Morecambe Bay has museums, beaches, and many scenic routes to walk and relax on. 

Just a 40 minute drive from the University is Blackpool, home to sand, sea, and sights as well as Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a theme park with rides and experiences for the whole family, and being so close is the perfect afternoon trip.
